New Universal Management Appliance EM5000 Removes Complexity in Monitoring, Managing and Reporting on Diverse IT Infrastructures

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Jan. 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- , which seeks to simplify IT infrastructure management by providing streamlined policy management with centralized monitoring and reporting capabilities across multiple devices. Capable of managing anywhere from a few to thousands of SonicWALL devices, whether distributed over an internal corporate network or among the customers of an IT service provider, the UMA EM5000 is ideally suited for small-to-mid-enterprises, large enterprises, managed service providers or IT consulting environments.

It is no surprise that the complexity of deploying and maintaining multiple network devices increases exponentially with the number of devices, end users and office locations on a network. In an attempt to gain control over such environments, IT administrators have historically deployed a variety of standalone products to manage, monitor and report on a company's IT infrastructure. Without central management tools, this administrative burden can quickly overwhelm IT staff, thereby making it very costly. SonicWALL's UMA EM5000 appliance overcomes these burdens by providing users with centralized policy management capabilities, which can dramatically reduce administrative costs.

"We always strive to listen to our customers and take their feedback into consideration as much as possible," said Jan Sijp, product manager at SonicWALL. "We've heard loud-and-clear about the importance of providing a management solution that allows customers to effectively and easily manage their networks. The Universal Management Appliance EM5000 aims to do just that -- it gives our customers greater flexibility in how they control their network."

An all-in-one solution, the UMA EM5000 comes with required elements pre- installed on the appliance, including the operating system, database and applications. By eliminating the need to buy these components separately, installation, deployment and maintenance time is drastically reduced thereby reducing the total cost of ownership (TCO) for the product. The EM5000 offers customers a solution choice to the existing SonicWALL Global Management System (GMS), which is a standalone software solution.

"Managing a number of security solutions can get unwieldy at times and to a degree counterproductive when you factor in all the hours spent with individual appliances," said Ron Culler, CTO for Secure Designs, a SonicWALL Gold and Managed Services Provider Partner. "With SonicWALL's UMA appliance we are able to radically reduce the time spent checking multiple products and realize impressive cost savings as a result."

The EM5000 gives companies a simplified and automated multi-level policy management, monitoring and compliance reporting facility with flexible, powerful and intuitive tools designed to reduce overhead needs and free up resources for new revenue opportunities. Architected to be extensible by the addition of software blades, the UMA EM5000 also includes the following:

* An optimized architecture that is purpose-built for SonicWALL solutions
to maximize security and performance
* A security-hardened appliance designed to protect the operating system
and applications, and eliminate the expense to acquire, configure and
deploy less-secure general-purpose hardware, leading to a lower TCO
* An intuitive dashboard that simplifies license management and eases the
centralized definition, control and deployment of up to thousands of
appliances and custom security policies
* Offline management capabilities that include scheduled configurations
and/or firmware updates on managed appliances, minimizing service
disruptions
* SNMP and TCP/IP support, including real-time alerts for all TCP/IP- and
SNMP-enabled devices and applications, help pinpoint and respond to
critical network events.
* A Visualization Viewer that presents the largest and most complex
hierarchies of SonicWALL appliances in an easy-to-understand format,
greatly simplifying navigation and decreasing time spent locating
information.
